Mansfield Motorsports Park is pleased to announce Wade Rich, formerly of Bradenton Motorsports Park, will oversee operation of the new drag strip that will be constructed on the east side of the MMP property. Rich comes to Mansfield with over 15 years of experience in drag strip operation, working his way up from an entry-level track clean-up worker to the general manager of two of the sport's leading facilities in the southeast.

"I have never worked for any owner that has the passion for the sport of auto racing that Mike Dzurilla has," Rich said. "It is a real honor to be asked to be a part of building the Mansfield Motorsports Park drag strip from the ground up.

"I don't have a construction background, but in my 15 years in the sport I've learned a lot about how drag strips operate," Rich said. "We know what we need to do to get people in and out, and to their seats with the least amount of hassles. We know what we need to do to give the drivers the best working environment and the best racing surface they can possibly have. We have five months to get it done. There is going to be a fair amount of stress involved, but at the same time all of us here are already having a lot of fun."

Rich has already developed a strong working relationship with MMP president and oval track general manager Chris Mize.

"I've enjoyed getting to know Chris better the past couple of weeks,” Rich said. “I don't know anything about the oval track world, and he really doesn't know the first thing about drag racing.  He's already told me he will do whatever he needs to do to help on the drag strip side of things. And it's the same thing from me, if there is anything I can do to help with the oval track. I am sure there will be some friendly competition on both sides, but at the end of the day, we are a part of the same team and we're both here to make this facility something everyone in Mansfield can be proud of."

Construction on the Mansfield Motorsports Park drag strip will start in the coming days in preparation for the first major event on the calendar, the International Hot Rod Association Nitro Jam Series World Nationals, scheduled for June 15 through 17. For ticket information for the IHRA World Nationals, or any event at Mansfield Motorsports Park including the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Ohio 250 on the oval track, or for information on track rental information for personal, club, or corporate events, log on to the track's website, www.mansfield-speedway.com, or call the track ticket office at (419) 525-RACE (5223).
